TURKISH PUBLIC, PRIVATE MEDICAL AND HEALTH HEALTHCARE SERVICES

Overall, care system options for Turkey are not as advanced as those systems in many western European countries. Although the situation is improving, the funds allocated for healthcare and medical resources are currently insufficient considering the need.

The quality of Turkish hospitals varies considerably. Istanbul and Ankara have newer, private facilities with fairly modern equipment and qualified training programmes, but they still may not be able to address all serious medical conditions.
Although some initial emergency medical services in Turkey and treatment may be given free, British nationals are likely to be charged for medical treatment.  It is strongly advised to take out comprehensive medical insurance, as facilities in most Turkish hospitals are basic compared to those in the UK .

The main centres are well served with hospitals some of which have direct agreements with BUPA. For health care services in Southern Turkey there are private clinics in the tourist areas of Bodrum, Antalya and Marmaris

Pharmacies are open from 9.00 to 19.00hrs from Monday to Saturday and there is usually an emergency pharmacy in each area.
