SPANISH SCHOOL EDUCATION - schools in Spain and buying property in Spain information and facts
In this section you will find basic facts about education in Spain. Many families are choosing to live in Spain and are considering the different options of educating their children.
Basically there are two options: Registering your child in a Spanish state system or registering your child at an international school. The choice is totally a matter of personal preference.
Children attending a local state school will be taught entirely in Spanish (Castilian) or the local dialect (eg Valencian) and engage fully in the Spanish high school curiculum. Therefore, younger children may find it easier than secondary school children to adapt by being immersed in this system. In tourist areas it is likely there will be many English-speaking children already being taught in the state system who can help their peers.
For international schools entrance requirements vary from school to school along with fees. Most will follow the syllabus of the United Kingdom schools and offer entry to GCSEs and A/S levels whereas the Spanish school system structure is based on the ‘bachillerato’ and is offered in Spanish schools.
A birth certificate, a report from their leaving school in England, vaccination and medical certificates and exam results are all likely to be required.
