Healthcare

The health care system is based on general health insurance, and run by the National Health Fund (NFZ).  People covered by the general health insurance (on a compulsory or voluntary basis) are entitled to free health services in the territory of Poland.  Public and non-public health care providers who have contracts with the National Health Fund are obliged to provide services within the general health insurance system.

Any person presenting a valid and official EHIC form can receive medical and dental treatment. If there is a need for hospital treatment, a doctor's referral is required. Most costs are covered by the EHIC form, but private medical insurance is strongly recommended.
