Generally, standards of healthcare in Cyprus are high and services are relatively inexpensive.  State hospitals are virtually free and for those who prefer the option of private medical insurance, the premiums are very cost effective.  Healthcare at government hospitals is provided free to those who are eligible.  Emergency medical treatment is provided to British nationals free of charge at government hospitals or medical institutions.  However, payment is required for outpatient and inpatient treatment.  You are strongly advised to take out good medical insurance and ensure it covers any emergency.
